SENIOR MANAGEMENT ROLES WITH AVIS INTERNATIONAL, HILTON HOTELS, SABRE TRAVEL NETWORK, AND WORLD TRAVEL & TOURISM COUNCIL
I started in marketing the classic way - in Brand Management with Procter & Gamble, straight after university. There I got the best grounding in marketing and sales that anyone could wish for. I then spent the next  nine years in fast-moving consumer goods marketing, before accepting an invitation from another P&G 'er to bring some new blood to the marketing department at Avis Rent-a-Car. Three years later, I was on my way to New York, to take on the running of Avis International marketing worldwide.

Head-hunted back to the U.K. with my new American bride, I became a Board member at a Granada Group company, (better known for its "Brideshead Revisited" and "Jewel in the Crown" series), to work the magic on a declining Overseas retail division. Despite my doing a couple of growth acquisitions in France and Spain, the entire business was sold by Granada to its nearest rival shortly thereafter.

And so I returned - very willingly - to the travel industry, to join the British Ladbroke group, which had just acquired Hilton International, and was looking for someone to move the marketing team from New York to London. Then followed fourteen extremely happy years as I helped put Hilton back on the map, and restored the glory to a famous brand with award winning advertising, and business building technology and service innovations. Later, I was to broaden my activities to develop the alliance that re-united the U.S. and international Hilton brands, and culminated in their unification.

A change in Hilton management created a career hiatus for me, in which I kick-started two dot.com businesses and worked as voluntary consultant to the Queen's Golden Jubilee Weekend, before I was reborn into the world of Technology, first as Sales & Marketing Director for Neos Interactive, a young breakthrough company selling entertainment systems to luxury hotels - such as so The Dorchester, Fairmont Dubai and Sandy Lane - and then as a Regional Vice President for Sabre, the world leader in travel commerce and technology.

But in 2009 I took the opportunity to rejoin the mainstream of the travel industry - first in an assignment as Vice President of Strategic Marketing  for CHI Hotels & Resorts (part of the Corinthia Group), to help them with the development of their first hotel in London  .  .  . and most recently, as a Director of the World Travel & Tourism Council, the global forum for business leaders in the Travel & Tourism industry. More challenges always welcome!
